Opportunists, or ....?

Gas prices around here went up between 15 and 60 cents overnight. Cheapest I've found 93 octane is $3.16/g. Most outrageous I've seen is $3.60 at the place next door to my office.

At Tim and Kat's on Saturday night. During a raucous game of "make fun of the video dating" and "R. Kelly is a tool," Remy (one of Tim and Kat's dachshunds) decided he'd had enough and had a snooze on the couch next to me.

I need to add that while we were all sitting on the porch, around dusk, a swarm of the most savage mosquitoes I've encountered mutilated my ankles. We were eventually chased inside (which led to the above-described picture and hilarity), but I've been in mosquito-induced ankle-misery ever since. Including as I sit here restlessly, typing furiously to try to keep my hands off my ankles. I have 12 bites on one ankle, and 11 on the other.

And at the risk of repeating myself, I'm in sheer agony.

Kind of. DanielR had to take down the blog because NeoPhi was getting hammered by spam crawlers, so blog.neophi.com is down for the time being. I had this old Blogger setup from before the b2Evolution days, so I figured I'd just start updating it again. Hopefully the b2Evo posts will come back someday, and I'll be able to migrate them over. To this, or something else.

At any rate, a few things have happened. Bob Moog died [NYT obit], about which I'm pretty sad. My father has an original vinyl version of Wendy Carlos' Switched On Bach, which vaulted her and Moog to prominence, and proved that synths could be used for "serious" music. I haven't heard that record in years, but I sure remember it getting heavy rotation when I was a kid.

There was also this crazy raid on a rave in Utah. I must say I'm pissed all out of proportion about this, and I really hope the PR disaster that's brewing (for the Utah County cops) sweeps 'em up and leaves 'em wondering where their M16s went.
